The Blonde Wulff

Hook:  Good quality dry fly hook 10-16 (I used Mustad 95842 turned up eye)

Thread: Tan 6/0

Wings: Calf body hair up right and divided (I dye a patch of hair Golden Yellow)

Tail: Calf Body hair (Same as the Wings)

Dubbing: Pale Yellow

Hackle: Light Ginger

Tying Instructions: For the most part this is a straight forward fly. Start the thread just behind the eye of the hook, wrap back 1/3 of the hook shank.  Here is where the wing will be tied in, (I normally stack both the wing and tail hair to even out the tips). If you like a tidy fly stack the hair, if you'd rather have a more bushy look just snip some hair right off the patch and tie it in.  Now with the wings attached, wrap your thread back and stop so that the thread is even with the point of the hook, tie in the tail. Don't use too much hair for the tail about a third of the wing hair.  Now dub the abdomen up to just behind the wings. At this point tie in the hackle, but don't warp it just yet. Take more dubbing and fill in just behind the wings and in front of them, this makes the thorax look fuller and gives the hackle a bed when wrapped. With this done you can wrap the hackle about two turns behind the wings and two or three in front, whip finish and that's it.  (Comments: I use Rite Golden Yellow dye on a patch of white calf hair. Just soak it in a cold bath (Not Hot) for about an hour or two let dry and it will take on a beautiful golden shade of yellow.)

Fishing Comments: As with most dry flies, cast up stream and try to get a drag free float through the entire drift.  (Always easier said than done, right?)   This fly can be tied in bigger sizes that work well for the Hex hatch and with the light colored wings, makes it a good evening fly as well as an excellent riffle rider on choppy waters.
