Fluttering Caddis

Hook: TMC100 (#14-18)

Thread: Uni-thread rusty dun 8/0 (or color to match hackle)

Body: Gray (or color to match natural)

Wing: Coastal deer hair, deer hair, elk hair

Hackle: gray, brown, tan

Ribbing: One strand of pearlescent krystal flash (optional)

Instructions:  This is just like tying a regular elk hair caddis only you add hackle to finish the fly.  The hackle is the key to the fly as it makes it very buoyant and almost unsinkable.  I like how the hackle also adds to the buggy looking nature of the fly.  Similar to Norm Zimmerman's Gray Caddis Dry I sometimes tie in the krystal flash to add some sparkle.  This is my number one go to caddis dry patterns, as well as a great summer searching pattern, particularly when using the dry and dropper.
